Ukraine's pro-Russian, democratically elected Prime Minister, President Yukanovich, was ousted in a coup that was supported by the US State Department and possibly the CIA in 2014. In retaliation, Putin seized Crimea, which housed Russia's naval base, leading to the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
