On June 24th, 1934, Heidrich presented a fabricated evidence to Hitler detailing a supposed treasonous plot, resulting in the arrest and murder of Röhm and many of his top officers. This event removed the SS from the shadows of the SA, giving Heidrich and Himmler the power to run the SD and Gestapo at their discretion.
