Dr. Esselstyn discovered that in the early 1970s, the risk for heart disease in rural China was 12 times lower than it was in the US and that in World War II, the Germans occupied Norway, leading Norwegians to eat mainly plant-based foods which resulted in a significant decline in deaths from heart attacks and strokes.
